One small step for man, one giant leap for iPhones: A father-son team sent their iPhone and a video camera into space over the weekend, collecting video footage from 20 miles above the Earth. The riveting video footage is sure to make iPhone users even more insufferable as they can now brag about how their phone has probed the final frontier. ‘Can you hear me, Major Tom?’ indeed.

Another interesting use of the device happened underground, in a New York City subway.

The band Atomic Tom gave a performance to straphangers using only four iPhones. Bravo! Check it out!

Can you hear my advertisement now? Mobile ad spending will increase exponentially over the coming years in estimated figures of billions of dollars according to industry analysts. Though the phone was one of the last places left that is free from advertising, mobile ads afford real estate agents the luxury of granting clients geographically sensible and time-sensitive offers. Will you be pursuing mobile advertisements?

The privacy issues at Facebook just don’t seem to go away. According to an investigation by the Wall Street Journal, popular apps like Farmville and Texas Hold ‘Em Poker have been sharing identifying information with many advertising and Internet tracking companies. It’s always good to keep in mind what we share online as you never know how information is being handled.

Never challenge a teenager to a thumb war. According to a Nielson study, 13 to 17 year olds send an average of 3,000 text messages a month. 18 to 25 year olds are the second highest text senders, yet their monthly average is half that of the teenagers. I hope their contracts are unlimited…

Congratulations to the folks at Apple for being named “Marketer of the Decade” by Ad Age. “There’s an app for that” and other campaigns have certainly paid off. Well deserved!
