As the “Shoes Keep Dropping,” it is easy to become paralyzed by the media reports, the unknown challenges that lay ahead, the worries around how long these market and economic conditions will last. In fact, it is difficult right now to think of anything else. For the most part, it is the same story everywhere — people are hunkering down for what everyone believes will be a challenging fall and winter.
As I sat in the audience on Sunday (front row, as usual) at the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals convention in Phoenix, an impressive lineup of presenters performed, and I say performed because it was interesting and entertaining. Even the economists were funny and witty in their comments. That was my first clue there was a different attitude happening at this particular conference. Nobody was commenting that the “numbers were down” as far as attendees. People actually seemed upbeat. This is odd, I thought.
One of the final presenters walked on the stage. In his hand he carried a worn paperback book, I could not see the title. Fernando Campos started to talk. He talked about his heritage, about how he had to work hard for everything. He spoke passionately about the business, his success, the growth of his Arizona regional Exit Realty franchise. Fernando spoke about how his positive attitude was the reason for his success. The book he carried in his hand was a copy of You Can’t Afford the Luxury of a Negative Thought by Peter McWilliams. This book has been around for a while. In fact, you can buy a used copy on Amazon for under $1.00. It is not one of the trendy bestsellers. I am not sure it ever made it to the bestseller list, but that is not the point.
The point is that thinking positively is what helped make Fernando a success. It is what helped him achieve his personal and professional goals, and it will help him continue to do that for the rest of his life. It is a well-known fact that if you believe you can achieve something, you will. If you believe there is a light at the end of the tunnel, there is. If you believe there is tremendous opportunity for future growth in this market, there is.
The most often asked question I get these days is, “how can you possibly launch a new brand in these times?” And my answer is always the same. “This is the best time to launch a new brand. There are tremendous long-term growth opportunities out there for brokers who are focused on the future.” It’s true. In the next 12 months we will see incredible consolidation and shocking partnerships. People and companies who would never of dreamed of joining forces will do just that.
My phone is ringing off the hook. The calls are from broker owners who have decided they want to be part of the future of real estate. Brokers who want to take part of the new wave of buyers and sellers that will hit the market over 70 million strong; brokers who have a dream to grow their businesses significantly.
No one is saying it is going to be easy, but the opportunity is there — big time. Does this sound like something you want to be involved in? Call me. 1-866-616-4BHG.
