Lights, Camera, Amazon? Last week, Amazon announced it is entering Tinseltown with the unveiling of Amazon Studios, a service which accepts scripts and movies from budding screenwriters and filmmakers with the ultimate goal of producing “full-budget commercial films.” If you think you missed your calling, you now have an opportunity for stardom. Cool!
Location-based services are scoring big partnerships as of late. Foursquare has teamed up with PepsiCo and Safeway with a new program that builds upon the retailer’s existing loyalty program. Essentially, users can earn extra rewards from check-ins. Gowalla also scored big by inking a deal with Disney, creating a partnership which focuses on custom Passport pages and a photo and check-in stream. (Also scoring big this year with location-based services are charities).
If you have ever gotten hungry while perusing friends’ pictures and newsfeeds on Facebook, you will be happy to hear that Exit41 launched a service for restaurants which allows users to order food without leaving the site. The merging of food and beverage and social media/mobile is only expected to explode in the New Year. In particular, be on the look out for “kiosk ordering, tableside payment systems, couponing Web sites, location-based social media and a burgeoning number of consumer apps.”
The Baby Boomer SpendingGeneration. Spending by 50+ consumers was $2.9 trillion last year, a 45 percent increase in the past 10 years. Impressive. Ignored in the past by advertisers, marketers are now courting the group of big-spenders by making them feel good, sexy and hip among other things. It appears to be working– the group is now the biggest buyer of new technology and cars.
Happy Thanksgiving! What are you thankful for this year?
