Week in Review: What We Liked From the Week That Was

It’s summertime, and if the warm weather has inspired you to start looking for a vacation home, now is a great time to buy!  This week MSN Real Estate looked at the hottest vacation real estate markets as identified by Clear Capital.  Palm Springs, Hilton Head, Napa and Tahoe all made the list of idyllic locations with prices that have dropped.

Vanilla Ice is making a comeback – not in music – but in real estate. The former rapper announced this week that he has created a new website, Vanilla Ice Real Estate, to provide advice on buying and selling a home.  What kind of advice, you may ask?  Well, unbeknownst to many, Vanilla Ice has 16 years of extensive real estate experience, and at one time starred in a reality TV show about renovating homes titled “The Vanilla Ice Project.”

Looking to garden at home but don’t have any space?  Consider a vertical garden.  Or, as they have also been called, living walls.  Introduced in the 1980s, vertical gardens are a way for people in urban areas to liven up a small space or otherwise unused walls.  But these gardens are not just for looks – when installed on exterior walls, vertical gardens can help to reduce the heat that a building absorbs.

And finally, building a new home can be a complicated and difficult for anyone, even U2’s “The Edge.”  The international rock legend’s plan to build on his Malibu property has been rejected by The Coastal Commission, who said The Edge’s plans are “a contradiction in terms — you can’t be serious about being an environmentalist and pick this location given the effects on habitat, land formation, scenic views and water quality.”  Looks like The Edge will have to cut some corners from his grand plan!
