Ten Questions with Debbie Ashbrook

Debbie Ashbrook

Debbie Ashbrook, director of business services and solutions at Better Homes and Gardens® Real Estate, answers ten questions with Clean Slate, discussing the concept of social media and the importance of Facebook, as well as sharing her passion for the real estate business.

  1. Which of our BHGRE® P.A.I.G.E. (Passion, Authenticity, Innovation, Growth, Excellence) core values do you identify with most, and why?

I have a passion for the real estate business. After 33 years, I have seen it all and it still remains as the best career where one can control their own destiny. Innovation is important. I personally became totally paperless in my life two years ago as I strived for growth in my life. One of the best things I have ever done.

  2. What are your favorite qualities in a customer?

Their need for someone to collaborate with them in one of the largest decisions most will make in their lives.

  3. What is the one characteristic that’s helped you the most in your career?

  4. What was the last book you read?

    Ghost Boy by Martin Pistorius

  5. If you were not in real estate, what would you be doing?

Being a cart girl at a golf course.

  6. What was the last song you heard that you couldn’t stop humming?

“My Best Friend” by Tim McGraw

  7. Who is your real-life hero?

My grandmother – she survived the war in Germany and came to this country with two small children and the clothes on her back.

  8. What’s your favorite thing about social media?

I love Facebook because it allows you to form relationships with people. It frustrates me that agents think this tool will sell houses. The concept of social media goes back 100 years. People do businesses with people they like and/or know. Facebook allows you to create those relationships faster, cheaper and easier than ever before. In the olden days, we used snail mail which is almost cost prohibitive to do for large groups of people today.  Now utilizing lists and group and only five minutes a day on Facebook an agent can really build their sphere of influence and raving fans.

  9. If you could sell a home in any market in the world, where would it be?

    Mexico Beach, FL

  10. What is your favorite motto, and what advice would you give your younger self starting out in real estate

“If it is meant to be it is up to me.” Focus on three key areas: Organized prospecting plan, Dynamite listing consultation and Dynamite buyer consultation
