But what is the best way to get the most in return for your efforts without taking time away from other business-building activities?<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday February 16<sup>th<\/sup>, Better Homes and Gardens<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Real Estate was proud to be the only real estate company to host an event at <strong><a title=\"Social Media Week Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate\" href=\"https:\/\/bhgrealestateblog.com\/2012\/02\/28\/social-media-week-a-global-communication-revolution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social Media Week in New York<\/a><\/strong>. The event, titled \u201cFrom House to Home: Social Media\u2019s Impact on Buying, Designing and Selling a Home,\u201d included <a title=\"Kim-Marie Mullen Social Media Week\" href=\"http:\/\/www.randrealty.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kim-Marie Mullen<\/a>,\u00a0social media expert and Business Development Manager at Better Homes and Gardens<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Real Estate Rand Realty.<\/p>\n<p>I sat down with Kim-Marie after <strong>Social Media Week<\/strong> and asked her to share a few tips and tricks to managing social media as well as her favorite tools.<\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"color: #008000\">Creating Your Social Media Strategy<\/span><\/h1>\n<h1><strong style=\"font-size: medium\">Q:\u00a0 How do you plan posts and tweets throughout the week?<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong>Kim-Marie: \u00a0<\/strong>I would encourage anyone dabbling in a few different social channels (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) to determine what their goals are for each one.\u00a0 Once you identify what you want to achieve, the next step is to create or curate interesting content.\u00a0 Schedule time into your calendar to find 2-3 articles to tweet per day and at least one post for Facebook.\u00a0 Then take a few minutes to interact within your social sphere.\u00a0 It\u2019s important that your fans and friends know there is a real person behind that information.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><strong>Q: Do you use automation to send out regular social media updates?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kim-Marie:<\/strong> \u00a0Social media automation is a great way to save time, but it must be used in moderation. \u00a0I will use tools like <a title=\"Social media tool\" href=\"http:\/\/hootsuite.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hootsuite<\/a>, and <a title=\"Social media tool\" href=\"http:\/\/sproutsocial.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sprout Social<\/a> to manage my social sites and also to schedule a few tweets throughout the week.\u00a0 Since I\u2019m on the go quite a bit, my favorite posting tool is my iPhone.\u00a0 It\u2019s easy to scan through Twitter or Facebook and find articles that I want to share.\u00a0\u00a0 The <a title=\"Hootsuite app for iphone\" href=\"http:\/\/hootsuite.com\/features\/mobile-apps\/iphone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hootsuite app<\/a> for the iPhone allows me to schedule tweets in a matter of seconds!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><strong>Q: What is your communication strategy?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kim-Marie:<\/strong>\u00a0 I take time each day to interact with my friends, followers and fans.\u00a0 Social media isn\u2019t a one-way street.\u00a0 Schedule 10 minutes at the beginning and end of your day to read and comment on friends\u2019 and followers\u2019 tweets, posts and blogs.\u00a0 Participation is the key to a successful strategy.\u00a0 Scheduling time into your calendar like any other appointment will keep you on track.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><strong>Q:\u00a0 Are you tweeting, posting and commenting at all hours of the day?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kim-Marie:<\/strong>\u00a0 You will find that I\u2019m far less active on social media on the weekends.\u00a0 I believe that it&#8217;s important to unplug and unwind.\u00a0 During the workweek I\u2019m very active, but like to step away from the social side of business and enjoy my evenings or weekends.\u00a0 Who said we have to be available all hours of the day and night?\u00a0 At some point you will burn out if you don\u2019t step away and shut social media off entirely.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><strong>Q:\u00a0 Any final thoughts or suggestions?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kim-Marie:<\/strong>\u00a0 The bottom line is this:\u00a0 If you take the time to plan, implement and stay consistent with your efforts, your social media strategy can and will pay off.\u00a0\u00a0 The important thing to always keep in mind is that social media is only one pillar of your marketing strategy.\u00a0 Decide how much time and effort you can devote and then stick with it!<\/p>\n<p>Follow <a title=\"Kim Marie Mullin Twitter\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/kimmariemullin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kim-Marie on Twitter<\/a> or connect with her on<a title=\"Kim Marie Mullin Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/kimmarie.mullin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Facebook<\/a>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spending time on social media is a must within our business.
