{"id":6056,"date":"2011-01-07T15:14:56","date_gmt":"2011-01-07T20:14:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bhgrealestateblog.com\/?p=6056"},"modified":"2024-12-30T11:24:12","modified_gmt":"2024-12-30T16:24:12","slug":"week-in-review-what-we-liked-from-the-week-that-was-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bhgrecareer.com\/bebetterblog\/week-in-review-what-we-liked-from-the-week-that-was-9\/","title":{"rendered":"Week in Review: What We Liked From the Week That Was"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In the words of Bob Dylan, &#8220;The Times They Are A-Changin&#8217;.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">This week, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2011\/01\/05\/132685261\/What-Lies-Ahead-For-The-112th-Congress\">112<sup>th<\/sup> Congress<\/a> was sworn in and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2011\/01\/05\/AR2011010506341.html\">gavel<\/a> passed from democrat Nancy Pelosi to republican John Boehner in a changing of the guard that capped the largest mid-term election party turnover <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-1326243\/MID-TERM-ELECTIONS-2010-Obama-defeat-I-need-better-job.html#ixzz1ANF0rqlrall\">in 70 years.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In the biggest change in 40 years, <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052748704405704576063940765196656.html\">Starbucks<\/a> introduced a logo without its green circle border proclaiming \u201cStarbucks Coffee,\u201d thus giving its signature mermaid some room to grow. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/40963718\">CNBC speculated<\/a> the shift to a wordless logo would help Starbucks with its product adoption overseas.\u00a0 Can your business benefit from more universal imagery?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">For my money, the most inspiring story of <a href=\"http:\/\/voices.washingtonpost.com\/compost\/2011\/01\/white_house_press_sec_robert_g.html\">change<\/a> this week was<a href=\"http:\/\/www.people.com\/people\/article\/0,,20455292,00.html\"> \u201cGolden Voice\u201d Ted Williams<\/a>, a homeless man who after catching the attention of a reporter with his booming baritone voice, has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/stories\/2011\/01\/06\/earlyshow\/leisure\/celebspot\/main7218743.shtml\">job offers around the world.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-6058\" style=\"margin-left: 5px;margin-right: 5px\" title=\"Candles\" src=\"https:\/\/bhgrecareer.com\/bebetterblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2011\/01\/Candles-206x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"206\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bhgrecareer.com\/bebetterblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2011\/01\/Candles-206x300.png 206w, https:\/\/bhgrecareer.com\/bebetterblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2011\/01\/Candles-100x146.png 100w, https:\/\/bhgrecareer.com\/bebetterblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2011\/01\/Candles.png 314w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 206px) 100vw, 206px\" \/>What about changing the vibe of your home?\u00a0 Perhaps in a sign of the times, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/01\/04\/nyregion\/04appraisal.html?_r=1\">smudgers <\/a>&#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.villagevoice.com\/runninscared\/2011\/01\/new_york_times_26.php\">or \u201cspace cleaners\u201d<\/a>&#8212; are gaining attention.\u00a0 Their job is to rid an apartment, home or other space from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abajournal.com\/news\/article\/looking_for_positive_energy_some_lawyers_see_smudgers_as_solution\/\">\u201cnegative vibes and improve the energy.\u201d<\/a> From simple rituals of burning sage to more in-depth practices, this is not likely to go away. \u00a0In my opinion, whatever makes a person more comfortable in their own home is something worth doing!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In an unwelcome change for some prospective home buyers, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2011-01-05\/mortgage-applications-in-u-s-rose-last-week-from-one-year-low.html\">mortgages<\/a> rose <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mortgageorb.com\/e107_plugins\/content\/content.php?content.7453\">2.3 percent<\/a> last week. \u00a0While last year, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/06\/28\/mortgage-rates-hit-50-yea_n_627529.html\">50-year low mortgage<\/a> rates captured headlines, this year, industry experts believe the age of near <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2010\/12\/30\/real_estate\/mortgage_rate_spurt\/\">4{0a8e414e4f0423ce9f97e7209435b0fa449e6cffaf599cce0c556757c159a30c} mortgage rates<\/a> may be gone for good.\u00a0 This change, they argue, may create a sense of urgency and stimulate the housing market.
