{"id":6030,"date":"2011-01-04T17:44:22","date_gmt":"2011-01-04T22:44:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bhgrealestateblog.com\/?p=6030"},"modified":"2024-12-30T11:24:14","modified_gmt":"2024-12-30T16:24:14","slug":"the-report-36","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bhgrecareer.com\/bebetterblog\/the-report-36\/","title":{"rendered":"The REport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Happy New Year! \u00a0As we begin what the United Nations dubbed the <a title=\"International Year of Forests\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/International_Year_of_Forests\">International Year of Forests<\/a>, it is fun to take a figurative \u201chike\u201d to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.silicon.com\/technology\/hardware\/2011\/01\/03\/from-tablets-to-black-holes-2010s-hardware-stories-of-the-year-39746729\/\">reflect on the past year<\/a> (read: iPad, Facebook) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eweek.com\/c\/a\/Mobile-and-Wireless\/10-Tech-Industry-Predictions-That-Will-Shape-2011-155919\/\">predict what is to come<\/a>.\u00a0 According to those handicapping the annual \u201cglimpse of the future\u201d Consumer Electronics Show this week, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cesweb.org\/news\/CES-trends.asp\">it will be the year of the tablets.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"margin-left: 5px;margin-right: 5px\" title=\"Office\" src=\"https:\/\/bhgrecareer.com\/bebetterblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2011\/01\/OfficeRedChair-211x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"148\" height=\"210\" \/>Last year, a fixture on many tablets was <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/BT-CO-20101229-708007.html\">Facebook<\/a>, the social media phenomenon that was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theregister.co.uk\/2010\/12\/30\/facebook_hitwise_and_sec_probes_privately_held_web_firms\/\">top search term<\/a> in 2010 and the <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.cnn.com\/2010-12-30\/tech\/facebook.beats.google.cashmore_1_google-buzz-social-layer-gmail-users?_s=PM:TECH\">most visited site<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/mashable.com\/2010\/12\/31\/how-facebook-beat-google-in-2010\/\">beating out Google<\/a> and Yahoo!).\u00a0 The company, which just raised <a href=\"http:\/\/mashable.com\/2011\/01\/03\/facebook-raises-500-million-now-worth-50-billion-report\/\">$500 million in funding<\/a>, is looking to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adweek.com\/aw\/content_display\/news\/digital\/e3icf8139469a71464243c2652c56723711\">be the hands down favorite<\/a> this year as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Speaking of which, what are your hands holding?\u00a0 According to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessnewsdaily.com\/small-business-owners-use-technology-to-juggle-work-life-balance-0875\/\">recent survey from Staples<\/a>, it is likely your cell phone and not the hand of your loved one.\u00a0 Nearly half of small business owners responding said they spend more time at work than with their families. \u00a0However, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediapost.com\/publications\/?fa=Articles.showArticle&amp;art_aid=142200\">according to a MediaPost<\/a> story, some credit technology with giving them the freedom to be home more often.\u00a0 Do smart phones keep you closer to home or work?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Stop me if you\u2019ve heard this one.\u00a0 Many people begin the year <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediapost.com\/publications\/?fa=Articles.showArticle&amp;art_aid=142065\">resolving to get in shape<\/a>!\u00a0 According to a new survey, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediapost.com\/publications\/?fa=Articles.showArticle&amp;art_aid=142105\">72 percent of respondents<\/a> say they hope to exercise more in 2011, presumably to trim the fat. \u00a0If this is you, beware the Internet, as <a href=\"http:\/\/mashable.com\/2010\/12\/29\/chocolate-social-media\/\">chocolatiers are finding great success<\/a> luring customers using social media.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">If your resolution focuses more on staying in touch and building stronger relationships, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trivalleycentral.com\/articles\/2011\/01\/03\/casa_grande_dispatch\/business\/doc4d220591d8b54914457672.txt\">Skype<\/a> may make it easier. \u00a0The Internet phone company has added two-way <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sltrib.com\/sltrib\/entertainment\/50976098-81\/skype-video-app-calling.html.csp\">live video calls<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/bits.blogs.nytimes.com\/2010\/12\/30\/skype-adds-video-calling-to-iphone-app\/\">iPhone and iPad.<\/a> Chat on!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Curious if your <a href=\"http:\/\/nexus404.com\/Blog\/2010\/12\/31\/who-gives-a-tweet-allows-users-to-rate-other-peoples-tweets-who-gives-a-tweet-invented-by-mit-students-to-review-others-tweets\/\">tweets add any value<\/a> to your followers?
