{"id":5895,"date":"2010-12-17T12:29:58","date_gmt":"2010-12-17T17:29:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bhgrealestateblog.com\/?p=5895"},"modified":"2024-12-30T11:24:19","modified_gmt":"2024-12-30T16:24:19","slug":"week-in-review-what-we-liked-from-the-week-that-was-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bhgrecareer.com\/bebetterblog\/week-in-review-what-we-liked-from-the-week-that-was-6\/","title":{"rendered":"Week in Review: What We Liked From the Week That Was"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Joy to the American Dream! \u00a0According to a survey from <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/developments\/2010\/12\/16\/even-in-hard-hit-phoenix-the-american-dream-endures\/\">Fannie Mae,<\/a> 51 percent of people surveyed said the housing bust did not change their <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2010\/12\/16\/real_estate\/homeownership_desire_high\/\">willingness to buy a home<\/a>, and an additional 27 percent said it actually made them more likely to do so. \u00a0Topping the list of motivations is the ability to remodel to their tastes and better schools. \u00a0Eighty-six percent of those surveyed cite income-tax benefits as another motivator. \u00a0Meanwhile, in Washington DC, lawmakers <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052748703727804576011921935665038.html?mod=googlenews_wsj\">re-examine some of the perks<\/a> of homeownership, including tax deductions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Test driving is not just for cars anymore. \u00a0For those individuals who are unsure about buying a home, <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052748704693104575638601227170046.html?mod=WSJ_RealEstate_LeftTopNews\">renting-to-own<\/a> is becoming an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.santanvalleytoday.com\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=1081:rent-to-own-property-popularity-on-the-rise&amp;catid=64:business\">attractive option<\/a> that is gaining ground, especially in areas hard hit with foreclosures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/40693891\/ns\/business-us_business\/\">Home repossessions<\/a> fell two straight months in October and November over last year, after banks stopped issuing foreclosures in the midst of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/40701741\">\u201crobo signing\u201d<\/a> scandal. \u00a0Unlike the weather across the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/weather\/storms\/winter\/2010-12-13-snow-cold-winter-weather_N.htm?csp=34news\">Midwest and East<\/a>, the banks freeze on foreclosures has thawed. \u00a0The silver lining here is that the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/developments\/2010\/12\/15\/lawler-foreclosure-mess-didnt-significantly-impact-home-sales\/\">effect of the mess<\/a> on home sales has not been as severe as feared.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwire.com\/press-release\/Home-Owners-Recoup-More-With-Exterior-Replacement-Projects-Realtors-Report-1369494.htm\">Homeowners<\/a> looking to spruce up their homes on a limited budget may want to focus on <a href=\"http:\/\/realestate.aol.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/15\/curb-appeal-is-still-king\/\">curb-appeal projects<\/a> as they <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/realestate\/news\/articles\/2010\/12\/15\/best_bang_for_the_remodeling_buck\/\">return the most value<\/a>. \u00a0A little paint and a few plants can go <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/imgres?imgurl=http:\/\/s1.hubimg.com\/u\/2012012_f520.jpg&amp;imgrefurl=http:\/\/hubpages.com\/hub\/Kayserberg-Alsace-wine-route&amp;usg=__QSSAWzhszUIrnmW_W0vRJxuutpo=&amp;h=390&amp;w=520&amp;sz=55&amp;hl=en&amp;start=0&amp;zoom=1&amp;tbnid=eFH3dDI3VhbqBM:&amp;tbnh=135&amp;tbnw=178&amp;prev=\/images%3Fq%3Dpaint%2Band%2Bplants%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26rlz%3D1C1RNPN_enUS387US388%26biw%3D1024%26bih%3D673%26tbs%3Disch:1%26prmd%3Divns0,300&amp;itbs=1&amp;iact=hc&amp;vpx=724&amp;vpy=185&amp;dur=993&amp;\">a long way.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">What will be trendy in housing next year? \u00a0According to <a href=\"http:\/\/realestate.msn.com\/article.aspx?cp-documentid=26685367\">MSN<\/a>, it is not going to be an <a href=\"http:\/\/realestate.aol.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/13\/cheap-housing-beijing-man-builds-egg-home\/\">egg home<\/a>.\u00a0 Rather, smaller, single-story, energy-efficient homes with a front or side porch and smaller kitchen and bathrooms will be the <a href=\"http:\/\/tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com\/2010\/12\/15\/lady-gaga-foursquare-the-social-network-among-usa-networks-characters-approved-top-10-list-influencers\/75579\">Lady Gaga<\/a> of the New Year.
