{"id":5630,"date":"2010-10-25T08:53:42","date_gmt":"2010-10-25T13:53:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bhgrealestateblog.com\/?p=5630"},"modified":"2024-12-30T11:24:33","modified_gmt":"2024-12-30T16:24:33","slug":"week-in-review-things-we-liked-from-the-week-that-was-41","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bhgrecareer.com\/bebetterblog\/week-in-review-things-we-liked-from-the-week-that-was-41\/","title":{"rendered":"Week in Review: Things We Liked from the Week That Was"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">With the tents officially up for the famous <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatermania.com\/new-york\/news\/10-2010\/big-apple-circus-begins-new-york-run-of-dance-on-o_31478.html\">Big Apple Circus,<\/a> the real estate industry is dealing with what has become a three ring circus of its own: the foreclosure chaos.\u00a0 After only 24 days into its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/la-fi-bofa-foreclosures-20101019,0,7301038.story\">freeze of foreclosures in 50 states, <\/a>Bank of America this week announced that in 23 states, it will begin selling the distressed properties again. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2010\/10\/17\/foreclosure-freeze-drag-property-values-housing-chief-warns\/\">Housing Secretary Shaun Donovan<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052748704300604575554050975475486.html\">others <\/a>are likely welcoming the swift and fair resolution of the foreclosure mess which is only increasing uncertainty in the market.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">For the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/39723660\/,\">short term<\/a> at least, one group is happy: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2010-10-18\/homebuilder-confidence-in-u-s-increased-to-a-four-month-high-in-october.html\">U.S. homebuilders.<\/a> In October, confidence in the group rose to the highest level in months. Perhaps the number of<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2010-10-19\/housing-starts-in-u-s-unexpectedly-gain-to-five-month-high-permits-slump.html\"> housing starts<\/a> had something to do with this?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">On Thursday, news broke that<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/hostednews\/ap\/article\/ALeqM5jEMxejKjSIVlhFaoaS3i20Y4fCpg?docId=33099033c5af46bd8474c94f018cdcc7\"> Fannie and Freddie<\/a> would need anywhere from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/10\/22\/business\/22fannie.html?_r=1\">$142 billion and $259 billion <\/a> in capital through 2013 from the government as they <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052702304023804575566100668143676.html\">absorb losses from bad mortgages<\/a>. Who thought it would get this far?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/2010\/10\/10\/3094008\/10000-wait-in-line-at-cal-expo.html\">NACA &#8212; Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America<\/a>&#8212; the federally-funded organization that aims to help struggling homeowners by offering services ranging from renegotiated loans to mortgage restructuring, has been holding <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2010\/10\/20\/shattered-dreams-new-class-warfare\/\">\u201chuge marathon events\u201d <\/a>around the country. \u201cSave the Dream,\u201d an event in California, recently attracted over <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/2010\/10\/10\/3094008\/10000-wait-in-line-at-cal-expo.html\">10,000 <\/a>people. I wonder if people driving by thought it was an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/news\/51942\/219896\">American Idol audition?<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/realestate.msn.com\/article.aspx?cp-documentid=25990100\">Extreme <em>city<\/em> makeover<\/a>? Much like the hit show, many cities are trying to reinvent themselves to not only attract but keep residents. From Detroit to Buffalo, cities are improving landscape, among other things, in an attempt to spice up their images.
