{"id":5260,"date":"2010-07-30T13:54:47","date_gmt":"2010-07-30T18:54:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bhgrealestateblog.com\/?p=5260"},"modified":"2024-12-30T11:24:57","modified_gmt":"2024-12-30T16:24:57","slug":"week-in-review-things-we-liked-from-the-week-that-was-30","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bhgrecareer.com\/bebetterblog\/week-in-review-things-we-liked-from-the-week-that-was-30\/","title":{"rendered":"Week in Review: Things We Liked from the Week That Was"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">There was a lot to digest this week, and I\u2019m not just talking about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyrecord.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=2010100728055\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">half-size \u201cSuper Sub&#8221;<\/span><\/a> President Obama ordered in Edison, New Jersey as part of his tour supporting a small business plan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Food for thought in our industry came in the form of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/0\/9aa6c262-9979-11df-9834-00144feab49a.html?ftcamp=rss\">mortgage-to-income <\/a> ratios at the lowest in more than 30 years, making <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sddt.com\/Commentary\/article.cfm?Commentary_ID=10&amp;SourceCode=20100727tbd\">home affordability <\/a> better now than it was in the 70\u2019s.\u00a0 And yet, the US <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/news\/2010-07-27\/apartment-rentals-surge-in-u-s-on-home-foreclosures-job-gains.html\">home ownership rate<\/a> fell to 67.1 percent in the first quarter, the lowest <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inman.com\/news\/2010\/07\/28\/homeownership-rate-still-falling\">in more than 10 years.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.inman.com\/news\/2010\/07\/28\/homeownership-rate-still-falling\"><\/a>Fannie Mae Chief Executive Michael J. Williams describes a <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/BT-CO-20100728-714211.html\">&#8220;new realism&#8221;<\/a> in housing in which much stricter lending standards will mean a smaller share of people are able to become homeowners.\u00a0 I do hope the economy improves, credit scores improve and home ownership extends to a greater percentage of people.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">It may be hard for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northjersey.com\/realestate\/announcements\/99522164_Seller_reset_expectations_for_2010_real_estate_market.html\">sellers<\/a> to swallow, but real estate agents sometimes have to suggest a listing price that is disappointing.\u00a0 When faced with such a difficult conversation, point out that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/money\/economy\/housing\/2010-07-29-homeprices29_CV_N.htm\">30% of the houses for sale nationally<\/a> reduced their price.\u00a0 And economists <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/hostednews\/ap\/article\/ALeqM5jfUWTT51JjdBvNwgqAXDPT0Qw1YQD9H6VBJ01\">predict home value will continue to decrease for the rest of the year.<\/a> Providing experienced, non-biased perspective is one way we can add great value.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In the coming weeks, it will be interesting to watch Fannie and its sibling Freddie as the government has big plans to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2010\/07\/27\/AR2010072705953.html\">overhaul <\/a>the agencies into nothing like their current form, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/fannie-freddie-jump-as-housing-reform-push-starts-2010-07-27-123600\">Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner<\/a>.\u00a0 More to come after a conference on housing reform planned for next month convenes.\u00a0 What would you like to see in the overhaul?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In heartbreaking news, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&amp;rls=com.microsoft%3Aen-us&amp;rlz=1I7ADBF_en&amp;tbs=nws%3A1&amp;q=southern+california+fire+&amp;aq=f&amp;aqi=&amp;aql=&amp;oq=&amp;gs_rfai=\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Tehachapi wildfires<\/span><\/a> ripped through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/hostednews\/ap\/article\/ALeqM5g4rSxtb6hFEjzSiMFwAKeOSyEC9gD9H81FEO1\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">southern California<\/span><\/a> and burned at least <a href=\"http:\/\/www.onlykent.com\/20100728\/tehachapi-wildfires-destroy-40-homes-still-out-of-control\/\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">40 homes<\/span><\/a> and threatened over 150 more.\u00a0 Our thoughts go out to those affected and displaced.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There was a lot to digest this week, and I\u2019m not just talking about the half-size \u201cSuper Sub&#8221; President Obama ordered in Edison, New Jersey as part of his tour supporting a small business plan.
