{"id":218,"date":"2008-06-27T20:36:04","date_gmt":"2008-06-27T20:36:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bhgrealestateblog.com\/?p=218"},"modified":"2024-12-30T14:54:41","modified_gmt":"2024-12-30T19:54:41","slug":"communication-surfs-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bhgrecareer.com\/bebetterblog\/communication-surfs-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Communication Surf&#8217;s Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Remember the days of beeps and buzzes, answering machines and pagers?\u00a0 These not-so-old communication and contact methods today rank somewhere among pink princess phones and pulse dialing.\u00a0 And where we used to wait until we returned home to check our messages, today a missed cell phone call is a rarity.\u00a0 24\/7 accessibility has become literal for many, and I&#8217;m tempted to break into dance when a funky ringtone interrupts my grocery shopping.\u00a0 And while I may be old enough to remember telephone party lines, I have evolved with the instant-communication times. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bhgrealestateblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/telephones.jpg\"><\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, I advanced from email and texting and jumped on the virtual b<a href=\"https:\/\/bhgrealestateblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/telephones.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright alignnone size-medium wp-image-219\" style=\"float: right;margin: 15px\" title=\"Old British Telephones\" src=\"https:\/\/bhgrealestateblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/telephones-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"The Bulky Past\" width=\"276\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>andwagon to social media networking. \u00a0I logged on and linked in. I blogged, pinged and twittered (or is it tweeted).\u00a0 And mostly I chuckled as I created usernames and secret passwords, at the realization that my space really isn&#8217;t my space if my face is in everyone&#8217;s virtual address book.<\/p>\n<p>No doubt, it takes time to become a media-networking socialite and I&#8217;d like to share some of the lessons I&#8217;ve learned along the way:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Start slow &#8211; Join as many networking sites as you feel you can follow, then, sit on the sidelines for a bit.<\/li>\n<li>Follow and observe &#8211; Groups form like beehives. Who&#8217;s talking? What are they saying?<\/li>\n<li>Read and Learn &#8211; Is the information relevant to your needs? If not, think of them like C prospects. Put them on a back burner and stay in touch every now and then.<\/li>\n<li>Ease in &#8211; Contribute an idea here, a thought there.<\/li>\n<li>Join in and reap the benefits &#8211; Social media networking is a great business tool. Where will you take it?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Technology changes faster than we can click a mouse button. Perhaps you&#8217;ve already dived into social networking in your business or maybe you&#8217;re still testing the waters.\u00a0 One thing is certain &#8211; sooner or later, you&#8217;ll ride the
